Department of Food Science (Frederiksberg), Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor of Foodomics from 1 November 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The section of Chemometrics and Analytical Technology has a well-established Foodomics laboratory that conducts research with a strong emphasis on high-throughput analysis in food control and nutritional metabolomics. Candidate requirements: Documented research experience with high throughput analysis using the 1H 600 MHz NMR analytical platform, including experiment design, sample preparation and ability to perform day-to-day system maintenance. The candidate must be able to recommend experimental practices to the foodomics team, and help in implementing thorough standard operating procedures for sample storage, measurement, processing and data analysis.
In addition, the candidate must be able to operate the UHPLC system for fractionation of matrices for NMR analysis Documented research experience with high throughput analysis using different GC-MS platforms, including experiment design, sample preparation and ability to perform day-to-day system maintenance. The candidate must be able to recommend experimental practices to the foodomics team, and help in implementing thorough standard operating procedures for sample storage, measurement, processing and data analysis Documented experience with multivariate analysis of large datasets using Matlab-based tools such as the Eigenvector PLS Toolbox. You are using Matlab or R as a language of choice for algorithm development Documented research experience with high-throughput quantitative derivatization techniques for GC-MS Documented experience with utilizing multi-purpose sampling robotics for GC/MS sample handling and in-tray derivatization techniques Documented experience with laboratory work on biological samples, including blood, urine, tissue, feces and various food matrices. The candidate much be able to plan experiments to and able to manage reproducibility and reduce sampling errors Candidates with a track record in attracting funding and experience as PI on one or more funded projects will be preferred.
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required, or must be initiated at the time of application. You will be a part of a very dynamic and fast-moving research environment. We are looking for a candidate that will able to conduct research with a high degree of autonomy, and emphasis will be put on prior research activities and awards achieved in the scientific communities.
Duties will include research and teaching the in research group, but may also include other miscellaneous duties. Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department. Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications.
Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered. In addition, all applications will be evaluated against the list of required technical skills listed above. The Department of Food Science is internationally recognized for its excellent food research and education, its impact for consumers and industry and its contribution to solving global challenges. Our research group, Chemometrics and Analytical Technology, carries out research and teaching within spectroscopic quality control, process analytical technology, metabolomics, multivariate data analysis, chemometric algorithm development and mathematical chromatography.
The research also includes human metabolomics as a function of intake of food and medicine, foodomics (food/nutritional metabolomics), bioactive substances and biomarkers in food, functional foods, molecular modeling and quantitative structure activity relationships (QSAR).
